4th International Conference on Organic Agriculture in Mediterranean Climates

Organic-PLUS partner MAF (Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, Turkey) hosted the 4th International Conference on Organic Agriculture in Mediterranean Climates: Threats and Solutions, May 27th – 29th, 2022 as part of the Izmir Ecology Fair.

Dr Alev Kir of MAF delivering results of Organic-PLUS trials of alternatives to peat growing media

Participants from 17 countries were able to see a total of 61 presentations. Alev Kir of MAF and Nikolaos Katsoulas of UTH were in Izmir and presented work from Organic-PLUS. Other project partners attended online with Anne-Kristin Løes of NORSØK and Judith Conroy from Coventry University delivering their presentations remotely as part of a special session on contentious inputs. It is interesting to note that concerns about contentious inputs vary between countries, with peat being fairly low on the agenda in Turkey, although awareness of its damaging effects is increasing.
