About Eidgenössische Forschungsanstalt für Wald, Schnee und Landschaft – WSL
The Swiss Federal Research Institute for Forest, Snow and Landscape (Eidgenössische Forschungsanstalt für Wald, Schnee und Landschaft – WSL) is a research institute within the domain of the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH). It provides world-class research related to a number of areas including macro-ecology, forest dynamics, health and management. Applied research and fieldwork are in a special focus of the WSL. The scientific staffs of the WSL in 2016 were 243 full-time equivalents including many PhD students. WSL researchers are heavily involved in teaching, at ETHZ and further universities, and a total of 434 ISI publications were generated in 2016. In 2016 EU projects funded the WSL with 478 k CHF, while the total operating costs in 2016 were 75 Mill CHF. WSL sees itself as a very advice oriented research institute which performs a large proportion of business oriented research which in 2016 has contributed with 581 k CHF to the total budget. The institute has its own experimental garden and has just recently bought a new supercomputer, which will be available for the simulations performed in this project.
