Prof Dr Uygun Aksoy. Uygun is currently the honorary president and chair of the Executive Board of ETO. She was one of the founders and president of ETO for two terms. She has more than 30 years of experience in organic agriculture. Her involvement with the worldwide organic sector at IFOAM includes the following positions: founding member and vice president of IFOAM Mediterranean Group, vice president of Technology and Innovation Platform, internal auditor, and member of Innovation Award Committee of IFOAM. She works as the international consultant on organic agriculture in FAO and ECO funded/implemented projects in Central Asia (Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan). She convened the first national Symposium on Organic Agriculture in Turkey (1999), Organic Horticulture Symposia (2010 and 2018 at International Horticultural Congresses organized under the auspices of the ISHS) and Scientific Chair of the 18th World Organic Congress hold in Istanbul in 2014. She has worked as a full professor at Ege University (İzmir-Turkey) until 2016 and lectured at Mediterranean Agronomic Institute of Bari (Italy) and Chania (Greece) on horticulture, sustainable agriculture, agroecology, organic agriculture and quality guarantee systems since 2016. She received her Ph. D., Assoc. Prof. and full Prof. Degrees in Turkey (www.ege.edu.tr).

Özge Demir Çiçekli.  Özge is the general secretary, a permanent staff member of ETO. She has bachelor degree in Horticulture and Masters degree in 2005 on organic orchard management obtained at Ege University (İzmir-Turkey) She has been working in the field of organic agriculture for more 15 years. She took part in all ETO activities including trainings, capacity building, project management, and outreach.


About The Ekolojik Tarım Organizasyonu Derneği – ETO

The Association of Ecological Agriculture (Ekolojik Tarım Organizasyonu Derneği – ETO) is a non-governmental organization founded in 1992 as an umbrella to promote sound development of organic agriculture in Turkey with the members coming from producers, consumers, processors, traders, inspector and certifiers, researchers, consultants, extension staff and practitioners. ETO works very closely with the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, Aegean Exporters’ Associations, local agricultural organizations (e.g. chamber of agriculture, municipalities), NGOs, private sector and all stakeholders. ETO partners with IZFAŞ, organizer of Ekoloji fair in Izmir for the last ten years. ETO is active at international level and member of the International Federation of Organic Agriculture Movements (IFOAM) and founding member of IFOAM Mediterranean Regional Group. ETO’s main purpose is to promote awareness, disseminate knowledge and data, and enlarge networking in Turkey and at international level. ETO organized wide range of activities as vocational trainings, awareness raising, panel discussions, scientific symposia (partner in national organic symposia hold every 4 years since 1999), conferences, seminars in several fields of ecological agriculture, attended national and international fairs, prepared training materials, coordinated or has been a project partner of national and international projects especially on ecologically sensitive areas, capacity building and employment generation and clustering of organic food. ETO wide-spreads its activities throughout Turkey via its Head Office in Izmir and 6 branch offices in Adana, Ankara, Çanakkale, İzmir, Kahramanmaraş, and Şanlıurfa provinces. ETO is recently initiating the Organic Network in Turkey with the cooperation of other NGOs, persons and stakeholders sharing similar perspectives. Due to Covid-19 pandemic, ETO started on-line trainings and webinars through social media.
